How do you number the carbons in a newman projection? I know that the big circle in the back is the second carbon and the point in the middle of the Y is the first carbon? Where is the third and fourth carbon located?

We will have to know how to identify them in a structure. I'm not sure if we will have to draw them, but it would be safe to know how to.

So for this problem in the organic textbook on pg. 97, it asks to name the compound of a structure including alcohol. I understand why the carbon with the functional group, alcohol, was numbered first, but why did the numbering continue towards methyl? I thought that when there is a double bond, we a...

For #8, how do you get your units to become 6.06 minutes?
I know you have to use the first-order integrated rate law to find the time.
I did ln(0.35 M/1.50 M)/-4.00*10^-3 s^-1
Is this correct?

Yes, I think that the question will specify whether the reaction is in a basic or acidic solution since the homework problems do.

Re: Difference between bond enthalpies and standard enthalpies of formation

Hi, Bond enthalpy(aka bond energy) is the amount of energy required to break one mole of the stated bond. For example, the bond energy of a O-H single bond is 463 kJ/mol. This means that it requires 463 kJ of energy to break one mole of O-H bonds. When all reactants and products are in their standar...

Hi, In this link, https://lavelle.chem.ucla.edu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=128&t=9661 Dr. Lavelle stated that an isothermal process is a change in a system where the temperature stays constant: ΔT = 0. He also defines other words such as isobaric or adiabatic. As for R, there are multiple values that...

How to find the roman numeral when naming compounds [ENDORSED]

Hi, so I'm a bit rusty on naming compounds.
So for [FeCl3(H2O)3]-, the roman numeral would be (II).
I was wondering how to get that number?
