I keep getting confused on when you need to switch the sign of the reduction potential. If the given half equation has already flipped the reduction potential so that it is negative, do you simply add together the reduction potentials or do you flip the reduction potential back, and then do cathode...

Also regarding Hess's law, when you are given an equation for a reaction and the standard reaction enthalpies of each individual reactant and product of the given equation, how do you solve for the standard reaction enthalpy of the entire reaction?

During lectures, I'm following how we are relating hybridizations to molecular shape, but I just don't understand why we hybridize separate orbitals to make them one. What is the purpose of hybridization?
