Re: Fall 2012 Final #6B

You couldn't find the Molarity in the first few steps because the moles that it gives you (0.05) is the initial amount for PCl5. When they do (x^2)/(0.05-x) and divide that by the volume, it is the same thing as using the molarities of each since they equal mol/L

Re: Atomic Orbitals in MO theory

If you have an anion, you add the extra electron to the more electronegative element's atomic orbital, and vice versa for a cation. Then when you do the atomic orbital for both elements then you just add the total amount of electrons to the molecular orbital.

Re: Using Kc vs Kp

I don't think you would have to use both Kc and Kp simultaneously (at least for this class). I'm not 100% sure but it doesn't seem like it. However, there is a way to manipulate the formulas in order to get both Kc and Kp in the same equation

Double Bond vs Triple Bond

On one of the posts here, the Chem Mod account replied to a question, and part of the response mentioned that there are some instances where a triple bond could be weaker than a double bond depending on which elements were bonded for each. For the purposes of the class, would we have to know those e...

The answer would just be 0.4, you would just ignore that subscript altogether

Re: Electron configurations [ENDORSED]

It's more stable to have that d orbital filled than that next s orbital. That's why it's more beneficial to have that full d orbital rather than the s orbital

Re: Speed of light [ENDORSED]

The speed of light is 3.00 *10^8 only within a vacuum. This speed changes in things like air and water, but I'm not sure how much of a change this brings out.

Sig Figs Throughout Problems

The use of Sig Figs used to be handled differently between both my Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry teachers during High School and I just want to make things clear. Do we consider Sig Figs only on the final answer or for each calculation done for the problem?
