When determining the dot structure, is formal charge or the octet rule more "important"? For example, BeCl₂. To make the formal charge zero, the Be would not fulfill the octet rule, as it would only have 2 single bonds.

I would assume it would be the same as the electron configurations. We are mostly focused on elements involved in organic molecules, therefore we will mostly stick to the first few rows of the D block, because anything after that gets more toxic/unstable to be used in organic systems.

The reason you would want kg for mass is because it cancels out units when dealing with joules. This is because 1J = 1(kg * m^2)/(s^2). So when dealing with the formula that gives kinetic energy, if your mass is in kg, it will cancel with the 1(kg * m^2)/(s^2) found from the joules.
