BeCl2 formal charge vs octet rule

When determining the dot structure, is formal charge or the octet rule more "important"? For example, BeCl2. To make the formal charge zero, the Be would not fulfill the octet rule, as it would only have 2 single bonds.

A molecule has resonance when the electrons can not be expressed by just one lewis structure. If there are multiple ways you can draw it, then it has resonance. If you draw a lewis structure, and then simply turn your page so the molecule is oriented differently, that is not resonance. That would be...

The hybridized energy level becomes between the original energy levels. I am not sure if we are excepted to know how to find what the exact energy level value of the hybridized molecule.

Whenever a bond breaks that is then classified as a chemical reaction. So if a pi bond breaks, the molecule has then undergone a chemical reaction.

I would assume it would be the same as the electron configurations. We are mostly focused on elements involved in organic molecules, therefore we will mostly stick to the first few rows of the D block, because anything after that gets more toxic/unstable to be used in organic systems.

Telling Bond Angles

When asked to find the degree of a bond angle, do the specific order/atoms involved need to be specified to be able to answer? Or would it be assumed to just list all of the different bond angles involved in the molecule?

To my understanding, the statement "for the extent of the overlap to be maximum" means that in these bonds, the overlap is the greatest overlap compared to any other bonds. And because there is so much overlap going on, that is what makes these bonds stronger. I hope by putting it in layma...

The reason you would want kg for mass is because it cancels out units when dealing with joules. This is because 1J = 1(kg * m^2)/(s^2). So when dealing with the formula that gives kinetic energy, if your mass is in kg, it will cancel with the 1(kg * m^2)/(s^2) found from the joules.

Do we know how we will be graded with sig figs on the homework? I understand it would be good practice to make sure that we have the correct sig figs on the homework for the test, but when the TA's are grading the homeworks, will we be docked if we have not used the proper amount of sig figs?
