Also, for the final will we have to know both the common names and IUPAC names or can we just know the IUPAC names?

So it's not that there are two identical groups that are across from each other but rather that the two highest priority groups are across from each other?

Homework Schedule

Hello,

Does anyone know if there is a place to view when each chapter ends? It would help to be able to pace myself through the homework knowing that we would finish the current chapter on a certain date.

Re: Chapter 8.49

I believe that unless stated otherwise, we assume that the reaction takes place at SATP conditions which means 298 K and 1 bar of pressure

In AP Biology we talked about ligands being a protein that attaches to a receptor on a cell to initiate the cell signaling pathway. I wonder if they are the same thing.

Electron Configuration for Fe 3+

Could someone explain to me why the electron configuration for Fe 3+ is not the same as Vanadium of [Ar]3d3 4s2 and is instead [Ar]3d5? Is this just an exception like copper that we should have memorized?

Lewis Structures with the noble gases

It never occurred to me before the quiz prep that noble gases could bond with other atoms because their shells are filled. I understand that a noble gas like Xenon is large and therefore could lose an electron to an atom with a high electronegativity whereas Neon is too small. Where does this cutoff...

Re: Hmwk Problem 1.9 [ENDORSED]

Try using a combination of E=h*frequency and c=frequency*wavelength. Using these equations you should be able to fill out the table.

Re: Nature of light [ENDORSED]

Are there any other objects or substances that have the same dual property of wave and particle qualities the same way light does? If I understood reading correctly, Louis de Broglie proposed that all particles should be regarded as having wavelike properties. This is why we cannot specify the traj...
