In lecture, Professor Lavelle mentioned that the most stable conformations have the least energy, and the least stable conformations have the most energy. Can somebody explain why there is this inverse relationship between energy and stability in conformations?

Example on page 50 in course reader (Gold)

In the example about gold on page 50 of the course reader, delta Goredox was +1.56 x 105 J. This told us that gold will not dissolve in 1M nitric acid. What about this answer led us to this conclusion? How would we know if the gold DID dissolve?

When using prefixes for ligands, are we supposed to disregard "mono"? Question 17.29c has one aqua ligand, and I thought it was monoaqua but the answer has it as only aqua.

I'm not entirely sure, but for the purpose of this class, memorize the list of strong acids. All other acids will most likely be weak acids, according to my PLF.

The question will usually tell you what units to express your answer in, but if it doesn't, I would say stick to the standard (grams or meters).
