Re: Saying Thank You to Dr. Lavelle

Dear Dr. Lavelle Thank you for your dedication and enthusiasm that came along from you teaching this class. Coming into 14A last quarter I had no chemistry knowledge what so ever, but now finishing 14B I can say that I have truly learned more than I can imagine. I am going to miss this class as well...

BF3 is an electrophile because B only has 6e- but it can have can have 8e- since it is an octet.

Re: Homework [ENDORSED]

On the midterm and the final there is always one problem taken directly for the homework problems. However, doing the homwork problems will preprare you for the quizzes as well, because the quiz problems are similar to the homework problems.

Re: [H3O][OH-]=10^-14

The equilibrium constant for any reaction, is called the water dissociation constant which is Kw. Because every H+ (H3O+) ion that forms is accompanied by the formation of an OH- ion, the concentrations of these ions in pure water are the same and can be calculated from Kw. Therefore, Kw = [H3O+][OH...

Re: Octet rule

The Central Atom can only have an expanded octet after the 14 element. However, it is a case by case basis, meaning that if it says to follow the octet rule, then depending on the elment, it can or can't have an expanded octet.

Making flash cards on index notes or quizlet really helped me memorize prefixes, suffixes, and abbreviations for the elements, when you are given a problem in word form.
