This joke is an onomatopoeia, a pun, AND a helpful pneumonic for remembering ether functional group. Chose ether one to focus on.

If CF4 is symmetric then why would it be ranked the highest for molar entropy? Shouldn't it be ranked the lowest?

Midterm Winter 2013 problem 5B

We are supposed to rank CHF3, CF4, CH3F, and CH2F2 in order of increasing standard molar entropy.
The answer is CH3F<CH2F2<CHF3<CF4.

Why wouldn't it be CF4<CH3F<CHF3<CH2F2?

Here is a useful pneumonic device to help you associate reduction with gaining electrons and oxidation with losing electrons:

Reduction--> reducing (positive) charge (therefore e-s must be gained in the process)

Therefore, Oxidation--> loses e-s (by process of elimination)

(1) the dH (would it be xdH for that amount reacted)?

Before this class I always presumed that determining the relative strength of acids and bases would be challenging. Turns out learning about NaOH, for example, is pretty basic.

I noticed that bond order was one of the topics covered on past midterms; where is that in the book? One would expect that to be located in near the end of CH3 which covers the specifics on bond lengths and energies. Am I just crazy?

Dr. Lavelle mentioned that copper and chromium are exceptions to the rule for writing electron configurations of atoms; wouldn't that mean that all of the atoms within both of the groups in which copper and chromium belong?
