Yep, the axial is always up or down and the equatorial is always 109.5 degrees from the axial bond. In the chair conformation, the top of the chair has an axial up bond and equatorial down, and then from there it alternates axial down and up for all six carbons.

Yes there are sometimes geometric isomers of the same molecule, depending on what you are given.
No it does not matter if you start with an up diagonal or down diagonal.

I was told that the answer is no because most organic reactions that have an activation energy under 80 kJ/mol will occur at room temperature, but I don't know if we are just supposed to know that or if there is a way to solve this problem.

Yes it has to do with the units. There is a list of four equivalent gas constants on the back of the periodic table, use the one with the proper units, in the case of 8.9 I believe that it is 8.206x10^(-2) L.atm/K/mol
