9.57 (b) Help asap and I'll love you

When calculating the standard reaction enthalpy of HF in (2F 2 (g) + 2H 2 O (l) -> 4HF (aq) + O 2 (g)) The solution has us basically doing some weird things with HF (what we want) in addition to H2O (reactant). When in the previous problem, all we did was take the number from the Appendix-2A. In oth...

Symbol Order for Compounds [ENDORSED]

When writing out the symbols for compounds such as triamminetrichloronickel(IV) sulfate...the answer is written as [NiCl_3(NH_3)_3]_2 SO_4
So why is the chlorine in front of ammine???

Re: 2013 Final Question 3D

There are four lone pairs of electrons. 2 on the oxygen, and 1 for each Nitrogen. You can google "Lewis Structure of urea" and get a clear picture.

Not sure about VESPR, but radicals in terms of Lewis structures means there is an electron that is not paired.

Re: Best Method for Drawing Lewis Structures

What I have found over the few weeks drawing Lewis structures, I start noticing patterns on how each element "prefers" to bond. The best way to be sure (which can be tedious at times) is to write out the formal charges. My typical steps: Count electrons->bond everything->fill in common pat...
