Tips on getting comfortable with dilution

Postby Andrew Rizk » Thu Dec 07, 2023 3:36 pm

Does anyone have any tips for going about dilution problems? I feel like this is the section I struggle with most and any tips before the final would be extremely helpful.

For me I would memorize the equations M = n (moles of solute) / V (volume of solution in L) and (M initial)(V initial) = (M final)(V final). Always start by identifying what the question gives you and what you want to find. Remember you're working with moles so use conversions as needed (if it gives you initial amount of solute in grams you would need to change it to moles first). Also remember that when diluting a solution, moles of solute remain the same (n initial = n final). Also reading section G under fundamentals in the textbook may be helpful. Hope this helps u got this!
