Hi, I have trouble doing dilution problems and figuring out which volume is V1 vs. V2. Also I have issues on where to start with a lot of questions, i read them then I get confused on what I'm supposed to be doing, any tips on how to combat that?
I completely understand, some dilution problems can be worded very confusedly. One thing that helps me make sense of a problem when I first look at it is to write down all the given numbers and what exactly they are according to the equation M1V1=M2V2. For example, I would write the volume given for the original flask and write V1 next to it. I do this with every number given, then figure out which one I'm missing and solve for that. Often the final volume (V2) is just the original volume plus a certain amount that was added to it. You just have to figure this out based on the context of the question. Hope this helps!
