Dilution Calculations

Postby halle young 4A » Wed Oct 02, 2019 7:12 pm

Please help with - G.23

in medicine it is sometimes necessary to prepare solutions with a specific concentration of a given ion. A lab technician has make up 100.0 mL of a solution containing 0.50 g NaCl and 0.30 g of KCl, as well as glucose and other sugars. What is the concentration of chloride ions in the solution?

what’s the point of them naming “glucose and other sugars” in the problem

I believe it's just extra information that isn't necessary to finding the solution to the problem.

It's one of those additions in the problem that tries to trick you and test your knowledge on what's the appropriate course of action when solving the problem.

The glucose and other sugars aren't relevant because there are no chloride ions present in glucose.
