Gaseous Mixtures

Postby Angelo Mapalo 4E » Thu Oct 03, 2019 9:42 pm

Can someone elaborate a quick statement from the textbook? "In practice, gaseous mixtures are not thought of as solutions, even though one gas might be dominant (such as nitrogen in the atmosphere)." Is it improper to call gaseous mixtures solutions? Or are gaseous mixtures incapable of being solutions?

I take it that the term "gaseous solution" just isn't correct terminology.

I think for the sake of not complicating it, the book's intention is to just draw a distinction between those mixtures strictly including gases and those strictly including liquids. Gaseous solution seems contradictory in nature like Priscilla said.
