Molarity Formula / Calculation
How do you find molarity? Trying to review for the midterm and I can't seem to grasp it. Thank you for any help you can give me!

Re: Molarity Formula / Calculation
Molarity is equal to moles of solute per one liter of solution. So if there is a question that tells you there is a certain amount of a compound dissolved into water, you would find the molarity of that solution by using the formula (you might have to convert grams to moles or milliliters to liters). This is also used in the m1v1=m2v2 equation where m1 is initial molarity and v1 is the initial volume of the container that the solution is in.

Re: Molarity Formula / Calculation
Molarity is Moles/Liters. You can think about it as an amount (moles) that is diluted by a liquid (liters). So in a dilution, only the amount of liters changes and the moles stay constant and you can use the equation m1v1=m2v2. (m being moles and v being volume in liters) . Just be familiar with the concept that it is moles divided by liters.

Re: Molarity Formula / Calculation
The two molarity formula that would be most helpful is: M=n/L and M1V1=M2V2, where n= number of moles, L = liter, M=molarity
Re: Molarity Formula / Calculation
You would either use
M=moles/Liters
or M1V1=M2V2 for dilutions.
Usually, just see which variables you have and manipulate the equations to determine the value you are looking for.

Re: Molarity Formula / Calculation
Try not to get too caught up in the wordiness of the questions. You need to break everything down so you have just moles of whatever atom/compound you want to find the molarity of and the volume of the solution. Then divide the number of moles by the number of liters to get the concentration.
