Textbook problem G.13

Postby vbarian27 » Sun Oct 25, 2020 3:12 pm

I am looking at the solution manual and I don't understand how adding 3.0L of water to the solution would give a new concentration of 0.050M. Help

For G13 you should be using the formula

molarity(initial)*volume(initial) = molarity(final)*volume(final)
(0.2 M)(1L) = (Molarity final)(1L+3L)
Molarity final = 0.050 M

I think you may have made the mistake of thinking that the final volume is 3L when it is actually 4L. The problem says 3L is added to the 1L, so the final volume is 4L.

Where do you find the solution manual? Is it different from the odd-number exercise answer key on the back of the textbook?

When you click on the link to sapling from CCLE, the homepage that pops up has a column that says "Resources" right in the middle. If you click on the last link under that list, it'll bring up the solution manual!
