Molarity other than solutions
When is molarity used besides in solutions? Is it ever used for solids or gases?

Re: Molarity other than solutions
molarity is a way to determine concentration of a solution so it cannot be used for solids and gas. It would normally be liquids in aqueous states because in molarity we are determining the concentration through volume rather than mass.
Re: Molarity other than solutions
I believe that molarity involves a solvent (the universal solvent is water), capable of dissolving a certain amount of solute so the final product will be in the liquid form.
Re: Molarity other than solutions
Molarity (moles of solute over liters of solution) is specifically referring to aqueous solutions, ie the ratio of solutes in a solvent, so no, it is never applied to solids or gases.

Re: Molarity other than solutions
The units for molarity are mols/liters. This is only ever used to determine the concentration of a solution and is not used for solids or gases.

Re: Molarity other than solutions
So one thing I would like to add is that when a solid is dissolved in water, it does in fact have molarity. However, outside of water, solids do not ever have a concentration. Gases usually do not have a concentration at all.

Re: Molarity other than solutions
Molarity is a way to find the concentration of an aqueous solution, and can't be used to find out the concentrations in gases and solids.
