The Number of Intermediates for Electrophilic Addition

For the reaction profile of an electrophilic addition reaction, there are two peaks for the two steps/two transition states, and one trough in the graph. I thought this single trough means there is only one intermediate, but for electrophilic addition, there are always two intermediates? Why does this seem inconsistent with the reaction profile graph?

Dr. Lavelle said that anything between the reactant and product is considered an intermediate. That is how I approach it.

It's because two intermediates exist at that "intermediate" phase. Together, they make up that amount of energy considered "intermediates" on the reaction profile.

When considering electrophilic addition reactions it is important to distinguish between reactants that are in transitions phases and intermediated. Those shown in transition phases are in the process of forming and breaking bonds while intermediates a substances that are formed in one reaction as the product and are later used up in a following one as the reactant.
