Transition State Theory

Postby Yareli Cervantes 2C » Wed Mar 13, 2024 7:48 pm

How could the transition state theory be changed based on solids, gasses etc? Also how does the energy of the transition state affect the rate of a chemical reaction or would it be based on the solution state ?

The energy of the transition state would essentially be the activation energy of the reaction, so yes it would affect the rate. The theory just requires the reactants to be near each other and react, so it would work no matter the state, compared to the Collision theory which requires the molecules to smash into each other, which is only really possible in gases. Hope this helps!
