Looking through the course reader, the graphs that depict Gibbs Free Energy vs. Reaction time and graphs that depict Energy vs. reaction time look the same. G and E are obviously not interchangeable but in what cases would we be given a graph with Gibbs Free Energy, and in what cases would we be given graphs with Energy?
Even though Gibbs Free Energy and Potential Energy may seem similar, they should not be confused and should not be interchanged. Gibbs free energy is the energy available to do non-expansion work, so it is a subset of the total potential energy. So if we express the y-axis in potential energy the humps get bigger.
I also believe if it is talking about activation energy then the reaction profile will be energy on the y-axis, while if they give you standard free energy of activation then the y axis would be gibbs free energy
