Determining most stable conformation

Postby Sandeep Gurram 2E » Sat Mar 12, 2016 6:20 pm

In the 2013 final question 8c, there is a Newman projection. How do you determine which conformation cyclohexane is by just looking at the newman projection?

You can see if you sight down the C2-C3 and C6-C5 bond that the methylene (-CH2-) units in between are pointed up and down. This corresponds to the chair conformation in 3D space.
