Kilocalories kcal vs normal calories

Postby Absolute Zero 1O » Fri Mar 10, 2017 9:03 pm

So when we buy foods from the supermarket in the US, and we read that the nutrition facts say calories, do they actually mean kilocalories. Because I think I see kcal and calories being used interchangeable. For example, the nutrition facts label says all percentages based on a 2000 calorie diet. Does that mean 2 kcal or 2000 kcal?

The food calorie, denoted "Cal" or "Calorie" is the same as a kilocalorie or "kcal" which is equivalent to 1000 small calories (cal).
