Substituents on Cyclopentanes

Postby Alan Chien 1J » Wed Mar 09, 2016 12:34 pm

Will we ever be asked to draw the most stable conformation for a cyclopentane with multiple substituents attached to the carbons? If so how would we do that? For example 1, 4-dimethylpentane?

Consider the steric, torsional, or other sources of strain on the molecule to decide which is most stable. In this case, it would be the trans configuration of you molecule.
