Chair conformation drawing
Does the drawing for the chair conformation have to be in a certain direction? The foot rest part of the chair could be pointed to the right or left, and in most of the answers to the practice finals the foot rest part is pointed towards the left. If it is drawn pointed to the right, does it make a difference?

Hi!
I think if you draw it the other way, it might be considered flipped, in which the equatorial and axial hydrogens will also switch positions.
Best be safe and draw like the way in the book, just to be consistent :)

Whether the foot rest points left or right, the two conformations of the char cyclohexanes have equal energy. But to be sure, I would have the foot rest pointing to the left, as it shows in the course reader ;) Also, remember to have the most bulky substituents on an equatorial axis, as it is the most stable.
