OCHEM INTRO problem p.116

Postby Evelin Escobedo » Fri Mar 11, 2016 1:59 am

In the OChem book, there is a problem involving the calculation of K and the percent composition of the mixture. Can someone please the initial step of determining the energy of the axial methyl??

Thanks

The energy for one axial methyl was provided to be 7 kJ/mol. Since the structure you're looking at is trans-1,4-dimethylcyclohexane, you can have 2 axial methyl groups. So that's why they multiplied it by 2 and got 14 kJ/mol.
