Conflicts in Empirical formulas

Postby 806063252 » Tue Dec 05, 2023 8:20 pm

Why are there two different formulas, and what are their purposes? What is the point, in the Empirical Formula, it is the ratio between the atoms, so what happens when to different Molecules have the same Empirical formula, how do you differentiate or solve it?

The empirical formula only refers to the ratio between the atoms in a molecule. It can serve as a general template for a whole category of molecules, such as sugars. Sugars have the empirical formula of CH2O. From here, we can make hundreds of different molecules, that have the same atomic ratios.
