First, due to the law of conservation of mass, you know that of the 996.08 resulting grams, 339.2 grams of it must be the initial cobalt, as they did not specify any errors or other products. This means that the final compound is 339.2 grams of Cobalt 656.88 grams. Then you calculate mols of each element through the molar mass given, which equals 5.75 mols of Cobalt and 34.57 mols fluorine. Then divide by the smaller of the two mols, just as you would do in a percent mass problem. This gives you a ratio of 1 Cobalt to 6 Fluorine, making the answer (D).
