F.1 textbook exercise
For F.1 we are given the molecular structure for Citral and we need to write the molecular formula from that. Is this something we need to know for the test friday and how do we do this question if so? Thank you!

Oh i see that we would just count the number of each element that appears in the molecular structure but how do we know the order of the elements in the formula? How do we know it is C10H16O instead of OH16C10? Thanks!

Re: F.1 textbook exercise
If the compound includes carbon atoms, C will be written first. If it includes hydrogen atoms, H will come second. Any other elements should follow in alphabetical order. Hope that helps!

Re: F.1 textbook exercise
For this upcoming test, we do not need to know how to write chemical formulas from their names (i.e. Nitric Acid is HNO3)- both the name of the compound and the formula (or just the formula) will be given to us. Dr. Lavelle said we would go over this in class at some point.
