Order of Elements

When writing the empirical and molecular formulas that you calculate, does it matter in what order you put the elements in?

Generally, in the order their given I would put them in that order, for example if given the percentage of C,H, then O, I would write it as CHO. It probably doesn't matter but to be safe I would keep them in order :-)

As the previous post mentions, I also start off with C, H and O!

Organic molecules are always written with Carbon first, then hydrogen. After that it is usually oxygen and then other elements in alphabetical order. Therefore. it is best to write it as CxHyOz.
