### Find purity using percentage composition and yield

Question: How do you find the purity of a compound C10 H7 OH which has been contaminated by LiBr if actual yield in percentages of carbon and hydrogen, which were 74.48 % and 5.20 % respectively are given?

### Re: Find purity using percentage composition and yield

Answer: First, it would be easy to assume 100 grams of sample, meaning that there is 74.48 grams C and 5.20 grams H. Next, using the molar masses of the compounds and elements, calculate the theoretical yield and find the percent yield, which should be around 93 g, and you can conclude quickly that this would correspond to a 93% purity.

How do you calculate the theoretical and percent yield in this problem?
