Wavelength

Postby JafarriNocentelli 1G » Sun Dec 05, 2021 4:27 pm

Are there any instances where something possesses both a high and low wavelength? Meaning that their radioactive threat is unpredictable?

Hi,

I'm not sure what you mean but I don't think so but I would double check with your TA/Dr. Lavelle. Wavelength is the distance over which the wave repeats, so I don't think it could have low wavelength and high wavelength at the same time. But you're right about low wavelength being dangerous!

I hope this somehow helped...

I believe that this question is outside of the scope of this class. I would assume that it can not have a low and high wave length at the same time, but its wavelength could be changed by environmental factors.

Whilst I'm not sure, I would assume that it is possible to have a high and low frequency for radioactivity.

Can you determine wavelength and frequency with only nm?

I'm guessing that by nm you're referring to a wavelength. If so, the answer is yes; frequency and wavelength are related to each other in that their product is equal to c, the speed of light. Because c is a constant, if we're given a wavelength, we can always determine the frequency as well.

Thank you so much, this makes a lot of sense. I also didn’t realize that wavelength is measured with “nm”. That’s where I kept messing up on

Yes you can determine frequency and wavelength given a value in "nm"
