What is the significance of black body radiation

I'm confused about black body radiation and what is important to draw from it. Can anyone explain it to me? Also do we even need to know anything about black body radiation for the midterm?

I do not believe that black body radiation will be on the midterm. What I remember from lecture is that it was something that emits light at all wavelengths / frequencies but he told us not to worry much about it.
