Black Body Relevance

Postby CalebBurns3L » Thu Oct 12, 2017 10:18 pm

Okay so I get that that a black body absorbs all of the frequencies of light, but what exactly is the application or relevance to the broader realm of quantum mechanics?

In terms of relevance, I believe that experiments involving black bodies eventually led to the Quantum theory as experiment results could not be explained by classical mechanics. This issue wasn't solved until Planck came along and suggested that the exchange of energy occurs in quanta (packets) of energy and did additional experiments. I'm just basing this from the textbook reading, but hope this helps!
