Importance of Black Bodies?

If idealistically no true black bodies exist in nature, what is the significance of learning about them?

During lecture on Friday, Professor Lavelle said that we won't be going too in-depth in regards to black bodies so I wouldn't worry about it.

We don't need to worry about knowing their significance in this course because they are only for hypothetical situations.
