What do I really need to know?
I remember Dr. Lavelle saying we won't go into very much depth concerning black body radiation but are there key points I should know and understand?

Re: What do I really need to know?
All Dr. Lavelle really said in class regarding black body radiation is that an object that absorbs all radiation at all wavelengths is called a black body. This means that since every and all wavelengths are absorbed, objects that are considered black bodies are basically invisible to the human eye.
Re: What do I really need to know?
This topic is explored more in physics based courses so you don't have to focus on it much as of now.
Re: What do I really need to know?
Black bodies are kind of an imaginary object that absorbs all types of wavelength. For now, I believe that we do not need to study about this in depth for tests.

Black bodies are a concept that is established in physics, where it is defined as an object that can emit and absorb light perfectly- which is unrealistic when you think about it. You won't need to be aware of this concept specifically in chemistry though.

Will we need to know this topic for the final or for any other classes in the Chem 14 series?

You don't need to know much about black body radiation for chem 14A. I am not sure about the rest of the series though. Regardless, here is a link that explores the topic more in relation to chemistry than physics:
