Re: Midterm
How do we know what will be on the midterm please help i am freaking out. Is there a place where we can figure this out or do we just go to office hours.
Re: Midterm
This is random but I also just noticed that all the posts on this question are fairly old, does Lavell change what he puts in the midterm when it comes to material or is it completly different each year. so might this topic be on the 2020 midterm?

Re: Midterm
I remember Dr.Lavelle mentioning black body radiation will not be included in the scope of 14A

Re: Midterm
Dr. Lavelle described that a black body is something that absorbs and emits all wavelengths, but this is a topic that is out of the scope of our course, so we do not need to know it for the midterm!

Re: Midterm
If you watch lecture 5 at around the 20 minute mark, he talks about whether or not it will be on the test.

Re: Midterm
He briefly went over black bodies in his slides, but he mentioned that these topics would be covered in a more major-specific class. So thankfully, they're not going to be on the midterm.
Hope this helps!

Re: Midterm
Black body radiation will not be in the midterm. If you do want to know a little bit about it, black body radiation can absorb all light, but we cannot see that since it does not reflect light.

While black body radiation won't be on the midterm, this link has some neat information on the subject if you are interested! http://galileo.phys.virginia.edu/classe ... ation.html

The syllabus has a bunch of practice problems that Lavelle recommends doing. Those questions are fair game for the midterm, so I would definitely take a look at those. Other than that, going to step up and ua sessions would be helpful! (Also just reading the sections in the textbook and taking the practice assessments on Lavelle's Chem 14A website would be a good tool to use!)
