Midterm 1
Does anyone know if we have to know about Black Body radiation for the test? I know it's unlikely but I just want to make sure.

No we do not. He never discussed it in class and also said specifically that we are not doing black bodies. Also that formula is not on the formula sheet.

I don't think we do because we didn't go over it in lecture and it's not mentioned in the parts of the syllabus that the midterm will cover.

I don't think we need to know black body radiation for the exam because Lavelle has mentioned multiple times that we won't be going into detail about it, however, I think it would be good to have a general understand of a black body being an object that absorbs and emits all frequencies of radiation without favor. That way, if it shows up as an option in a multiple choice question you can get to the correct answer more easily.

It's included in the readings but I think Lavelle said it's not something we need to know.

Hello! I agree with Juliet above - it was mentioned a few times and also is included briefly in the textbook readings, so it'd be a good idea to know general information about the topic. However, I don't believe it is a required topic to know on the Outline. Good luck on the midterm!

Look at outline 1 + 2 on the Lavelle's website. It tell you exactly what you need to know!

Black body radiation is a model absorbing all the raditaion and reflect nothing. This is not part of the syllabus.

Black Body Radiation is not on the midterm. He said in one of the lectures that it wouldn't be on the test, nor is it part of the curriculum (I think).

Lavelle mentioned in one of the lectures that we would not have to worry about black body radiation.

Dr. Lavelle said not to worry about it. It wasn't on my midterm and I believe he said it wouldn't be on any of them
