Schrodinger's Equation

Postby Wesley Greene » Wed Oct 25, 2023 10:15 am

What is the key concept associated with understanding Schrodinger's equation. I understand that we do not need to know how to use the equation, but should understand its concept. What is its concept and what is the best way to think about it?

Thanks!

I know that using the parts, you're able to find electron densities, but I think the basic concept is it gives the structure of waves that move very small particles.

Yes! Additionally, know that psi^2 is the probability of finding an electron. In general just know that the Schrodinger Equation states that energy is conserved in a system, and that we are essentially trying to find the wave functions that satisfy the equation so the energies are equal in the left and right sides of the equation! Hope that helps.
