The Components of Shrodinger Equation

Postby Rishit Bhat » Wed Oct 25, 2023 12:24 pm

Hey! Does anyone know how to identify which parts of the equation represent Kinetic Energy and Potential Energy? Is there a significance to knowing these components within the equation for the scope of this class?

The identification of kinetic energy (KE) and potential energy (PE) components within equations is vital to comprehend the energy changes that occur in various chemical processes. For instance, in chemical reactions, KE may relate to the motion of reactant molecules, particularly their translational, rotational, and vibrational motion. On the other hand, PE often associates with the arrangement of atoms or molecules in a system. Knowing these components is not only significant for understanding the energetics of reactions but also for predicting and controlling the outcome of chemical processes.
