Schrodinger's Equation & Orbitals

$H_{\psi }=E_{\psi }$

1-D: $E_{TOTAL}\psi (x)=E_{k}\psi (x)+V(x)\psi(x)=-\frac{h^{2}}{8\pi ^{2}m}\frac{d^{2}\psi(x)}{dx^{2}}+V(x)\psi(x)$

Schrodinger's Equation & Orbitals

Can someone give me a basic rundown of how we use Schrondinger's equation to understand orbitals? I know we don't have to know the equation in depth but I am confused on the general relationship between the equation and orbitals.

I'm also confused about this. I have in my notes psi (x, y, z) = Energy psi (x, y, z), but also psi: s, p, d, f. Maybe the x = s, y = p, and z = d?

You use the schrodinger equation and the solutions are orbitals.

I am also confused about this equation. Do you think we will have to explain it conceptually/ can anyone explain the use of the equation?
