I don't think we'll be using it in this course, but if there were to be a problem that makes use of this equation, it'll probably provide the kinetic energy and potential energy and using the hamiltonian found from those two values, you'd be able to calculate the wavefunction and the energy. Because this equation makes use of derivatives, it'll probably require a bit more background knowledge of calculus to actually solve a problem with more complex values.
