derivation

Postby 705379941 » Thu Oct 17, 2019 8:38 pm

is it important to know how to derive all of these different equations?

Having the equation sheet on the tests and quizzes, I would think that it is not too important to know how to derive the equations. There are many equations that are extremely complicated and time consuming to prove as well. I think that if Dr. Lavelle has proved the equation on the board during a lecture, then it would be good to try and learn to prove yourself as well.

I think it's good to know how to derive the equations discussed in lecture, just to be on the safe side incase they come up on an exam!

I don't think we would be given problems where we have to derive the equations (especially since we are given a formula sheet for exams), but knowing the general basis of the derivation is definitely helpful in understanding the main concepts behind the equation. I would know how each variable relates to each other and why each variable is present in the question in case if we ever get asked any conceptual equations!

Do we know where he gets his equation sheets so we can know what equations will be given on the test? Such as prefixes, percent yield, etc.

Yupp, his constants and equations sheet can be found on his website or here
