## Schrodinger equation

$H_{\psi }=E_{\psi }$

1-D: $E_{TOTAL}\psi (x)=E_{k}\psi (x)+V(x)\psi(x)=-\frac{h^{2}}{8\pi ^{2}m}\frac{d^{2}\psi(x)}{dx^{2}}+V(x)\psi(x)$

### Schrodinger equation

Can someone explain the Schrodinger equation and how to know when we need to use it?

### Re: Schrodinger equation

The Schrodinger equation is basically used to describe an electron in an atom by calculating the electron's wave function. https://www.chemicool.com/definition/sc ... ation.html is pretty helpful in describing what it is and when it's applied.

### Re: Schrodinger equation

In addition to the previous response, solutions to the Schrodinger equation give the quantum numbers, which tell us about the specific state of electrons!

### Re: Schrodinger equation

it describes general placement of electrons in an atom with a wave function. Not sure what we will be using it for though.
