## Schrondiger's Equation

$H_{\psi }=E_{\psi }$

1-D: $E_{TOTAL}\psi (x)=E_{k}\psi (x)+V(x)\psi(x)=-\frac{h^{2}}{8\pi ^{2}m}\frac{d^{2}\psi(x)}{dx^{2}}+V(x)\psi(x)$

### Schrondiger's Equation

Is there any application of this equation we need to know? or is this more of a concept we must understand?

### Re: Schrondiger's Equation

One of the T.A.s said that it is more important that we understand the concept behind the equation. Make sure that you also understand what each of the terms in the equation represents as well.

### Re: Schrondiger's Equation

The main idea behind the equation is to find the location of an electron and its probability finding it at a certain point.

### Re: Schrondiger's Equation

Hi,

I would like to add that the schrodinger equation determines the energy of an electron and the probability of finding an electron at a specific location. Additionally, the square of the wave function gives the probability density in a specific region of a volume.

### Re: Schrondiger's Equation

Essentially it's used to describe orbitals right?

### Re: Schrondiger's Equation

Honestly, I don't know how much we need to know about this because in Outline 2, it says to omit 1C, which is on the wave function but the TA in today's review session was discussing the wave equation.

### Re: Schrondiger's Equation

Will the test specifically say using Schrondiger's equation or should we just know to use it? If anyone has seen old tests and the test contained Schrondiger's equation how did he ask?
