Shape/Graph of Wave Function

Hello,

I just wanted to go more in depth into the shapes of then wave functions and how their shapes are created. If someone could explain to me how we got there in the first place because I know Dr. Lavelle said they come from then math function but where did we get the math function from? And how are the shapes related to electrons?

The details of how the math equation or Schrodinger's equation are derived involve some very intense physics and mathematics that are far beyond the level of this course. As for the shapes of the orbitals, they represent the range of locations a given electron may occupy at any one moment in time.
