Hi guys, can someone please explain the shrodiger's wave function equation when we must use it?

I am not sure if we will have to use Schrodinger's wave function as its composed of elements that require the double derivative of things to be taken. I believe we learned about it because it represents the combination of De Broglie's wave function and Heisenburgs wave function and helps to give us information concerning the quantum number and atomic orbitals Ex. s,p,d,f.
