Particle in A box

Postby 605110118 » Sun Oct 13, 2019 4:56 pm

Is the Particle in a box experiment vital to know for the midterm? Or is just a concept that is skimmed over?

You are not expected to know/use the particle in a box experiment in this class.

Yeah I don’t think we need to know it for the text but it was really helpful at least for me to understand the concepts in this chapter.

I think it's something that's meant to be more conceptual and help us understand what we are learning, not really something we have to focus a lot on since we didn't have questions on it.

Can the particle in a box experiment be compared to the physics of acoustics and sound waves within a chamber/tube?

Particle in a box is a concept that is a way of looking at the concept of the quantized energy levels of electrons. It can be used with any wave model, being related to that of an acoustic guitar string. However, Lavelle stated you didn't need to focus on this concept.

I don't think it will be necessary to know this concept for the midterm even though it was briefly mentioned in lecture.
