How much do we need to know about "particle in a box"?
This was a concept that I struggled to grasp and I'm not sure to what extent we need to be familiar with it.

For the final I do not believe that this will be a question on the test, we should just know the reasoning behind the results.

I believe this was a quantum mechanics concept that Lavelle touched upon, but we never really went back to it, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. From what I got, the fundamental idea with the particle in a box model is that the particle refers an electron, and the box has dimensions equal to the atom's atomic radius. The electron (the 'particle') is limited to the bounds of the box ('the atomic radius'). I might be wrong...

I remember him saying in lecture that we would not cover particle in a box.
