I need help clarifying this,
Cisplatin I used during chemo therapy and it helps stop cell division.
on the other hand, Transplatin is not used in chemo and produces less DNA adduct.

cisplatin is specifically used for chemotherapy and stopping cell division due to its cis orientation. Essentially, because cisplatin has both of its Cl's on one side, the two Cl's can bond to a close together guanine pair. It is bidentate since the two Cl's are on the same side, so cisplatin can stay attached to the DNA strand and prevent the DNA polymerase from replicating the DNA. This wouldn't be possible with transplatin since the Cl are on the opposite side.

it's because cisplatin is more effective in binding to guanine to prevent DNA replication as opposed to transplatin. cis- and trans- determine the configuration of ligands around the platinum metal; cis means that two of the same atoms/molecules are on the same side of a molecule as the other, trans- means the opposite. Cisplatin has the option to bind to one more site on guanine compared to transplatin, which boosts its effectiveness.

The Cisplatin has 2 Chlorines on the same side which gives it the strength to stay onto the two adjacent guanine nitrogenous bases. With the translation only having one chlorine on each side, it is more easily removed from the DNA strand. It is much less effective as a treatment, thus cisplatin is used as the chemotherapy drug, due to the strength of the bonds it forms with DNA.

since the cisplatin has both of its chlorine atoms on one side of the molecule it is easier for it to bond to guanine and has a stronger bond.

Yes, and these differences between the two occur because one contains cis isomers and one contains trans isomers.

Having both the chlorines on the same side of the platinum allows a coordination complex to form to the adjacent guanines on the DNA molecule. However, in the trans form, such a complex could not form. This is why the cisplatin is a much more effective chemo drug as it prevents DNA replication

Cisplatin is used as a chemotherapy drug since the two chlorines on the same side, which allows it to form a coordination compound with DNA and stop cell division. Because transplatin has the chlorine atoms on opposite sides, it cannot form as strong of bonds with the DNA and is thus not as effective at inhibiting cell division.
