Do we have to know the names and how to compose chemical reaction equations?

Hello!

Will we have to know the molecular formulas from their names for the exam?

For example: "Hydrofluoric acid reacts with silica, and produces silicon tretrafluride and water. Write and balance the chemical formula".

I believe Dr. Lavelle mentioned in lecture that we don't need to know how to identify compounds from their name since that is not the concept he is aiming to test us on, but we should know very simple and well known compounds like water and carbon dioxide!
